Job Description:

As the Donor Stewardship Officer you will play a key role in building and growing a structured and systematic major gifts program. We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on emergency response and provides temporary housing for people in times of crisis. We are governed by an independent Board of Directors and its mission is to provide emergency housing in times of crisis.

This is a foundational role, ideal for someone energized by a startup environment who thrives in building systems, relationships, and creating connections from scratch. You’ll partner cross-functionally and with organizational leadership to ideate and help launch new opportunities for donors to stay informed and engaged in our work, such as webinars, multi-channel communications, and in-person events that inspire deep and lasting support. This role blends strategy and execution—ideal for someone who loves relationship-building, storytelling, and creating exceptional donor experiences. As the program evolves, so will the needs and scope of the role. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Donor Stewardship & Major Gifts Fundraising

· Support the Head of Fundraising in architecting and executing a donor stewardship program from scratch that reflects our values and deepens donor trust and engagement. This includes designing meaningful touchpoints such as impact reports (working with the Marketing team) and creating high-touch personalized communications, special events, webinars and donor recognition programs.

· Manage events A-Z, including developing the invite list, designing and sending invitations and working in partnership with the events team to curate an exquisite experience.

· Help design the strategy, rollout and management of donor membership club(s). This includes tracking and managing fulfillment of benefits, branding, and engagement strategies utilizing the design assets provided by the Marketing team.

· Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, identifying new opportunities and cultivating long-term relationships.

· Partner with leadership and program staff to develop compelling cases for support.

· Play an integral role in achieving fundraising goals.

Infrastructure, Systems Building + Data

· Work closely with the Fundraising Operations Specialist to ensure donor data, communications and relationships are accurately tracked in the CRM (Salesforce).

· Work cross functionally to analyze donor data and reporting: Tracking key metrics like donor retention rates, engagement levels, and gift upgrade rates to evaluate the effectiveness of stewardship efforts and identify areas for improvement.

· Support with additional responsibilities and special projects as needed.

Skills:

· You’re a natural relationship-builder who leads with warmth, trust, and professionalism.

· You have a high level of confidentiality and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

· You have experience producing and managing fundraising events both large and small.

· You understand the steps needed to transform financial contributions into meaningful, long-term partnerships by creating experiences, and the supporting systems that ensure donors feel valued, understood, and deeply connected to our donor site.

· You thrive in early-stage environments, and you’re comfortable building without a blueprint.

· You bring 7-10 years of experience in individual fundraising, major gifts, or donor relations.

· You have tangible experience launching and/or managing a donor club, giving circle, or membership model.

· You are a self-starter and are consistent and structured in your approach while simultaneously being comfortable with ambiguity and new priorities.

· You’re entrepreneurial, creative, organized, and excited by the idea of launching something new.

· You have strong writing and presentation skills and are comfortable communicating impact through stories and data.

· You’re comfortable working across teams while working to build a culture of philanthropy.

· You are familiar with Salesforce CRM.

· You can pivot quickly and are comfortable with ambiguity.

· Bachelor's degree.
