Job Description:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have working knowledge in assessment, planning, training, implementation, evaluation, and optimization of nursing informatics projects.
  • Is willing to serve as the primary interface between nursing, patient care services, and Information Services to ensure multi- and inter-disciplinary project coordination.
  • Must be willing to participate in communications and project planning regarding system implementation and integration with other hospital initiatives.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the nursing process and practice, relevant regulatory mandates, and quality/safety improvement principles.
  • Must be experienced in planning and implementing evidence-based practices for planning, understanding, guiding, and delivering responsible nursing care.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Preferred experience with Cerner or Allscripts Paragon.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue-resolution techniques.
  • Able to develop and interpret technical documentation for training and end-user procedures.
  • Knowledge of trends in technology relating to software applications.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentational skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into software development and delivery concepts, as well as technical application issues. Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

JOB DUTIES:

 

  • Ensures the completion and effectiveness of assessing, planning, implementation, evaluation, and optimization of the clinical informatics projects.
  • Collaborates with clinical department directors, nurse managers, CNSs and clinical experts, physicians, and other key staff in overall project evaluation. Identifies key benchmarks for use in evaluation.
  • Initiates and directs planning related to project development including the identification of project objectives, expected outcomes, resource requirements, and evaluation strategies.
  • Contributes to the design and conduct of evidence-based practice and quality improvement activities related to the care of patients and their families.
  • Coordinates system parameters and project designs with the Director, Clinical Informatics, project teams, and/or vendors.
  • Field incoming problem tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues within servers, databases, and other mission-critical systems.
  • Prioritize, schedule, and administer all instances where enhancements and defect resolution are required.
  • Record, track, and document the problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution.
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent repeated future problems.
  • Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leaders.
  • Evaluate fixes and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems have been resolved.
  • Maintain and enhance the performance of all new and existing software and applications across the organization.
  • Provides program management for nursing informatics projects including, but not limited to:
  • Assess unit and department technology needs.
  • Coordinates orientation classes at implementation.
  • Provides ongoing end-user education.
  • Develop system-related policies and procedures.
  • Works with the appropriate department teams and directors to confirm staff involvement and competency for projects as appropriate.
  • Provides support to nursing staff for relevant technologies through regular clinical rounds.
  • Provides support for daily system operations for relevant technologies.
  • Role models leadership behaviors that demonstrate specific professional values and commitment to advanced practice.
  • Ensures that reliable data are being reported in patient care services information systems using nurse auditors and inter-rater reliability testing on a frequency as appropriate for the assigned project.
  • Facilitates a safe practice environment for interdisciplinary team members' use of technology.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with other members of the health care team for effective interdisciplinary care.
  • Evaluate current interventions and emerging technologies to ensure the implementation of strategies that promote viable data, cost, safety, and quality outcomes.
  • Provides a nursing perspective and articulates nursing needs related to integration of technology in patient care delivery.
  • Develops policy and procedure to support practice implementation and modification, as necessary.
  • Evaluates necessary changes in nursing clinical practice and workflow as related to technology, including new functionality and functional applications.
  • Analyzes processes and implements necessary process improvements related to technology inventory and lifespan; obtains and analyzes data related to the number of devices needed to meet clinical demands.
  • Evaluate practice setting suitability for the use of technology to ultimately achieve one standard of care.
  • Evaluates outcomes of technology use including but not limited to feedback from users and impact on improved patient safety.
  • Assists patient care managers and others in the interpretation and use of data for decision-making.
  • Promotes inquiry by stimulating and encouraging staff members to question and investigate best practice phenomena concerning the impact of technology within clinical practice and workflows.
  • Manage and/or guide junior members of the team.
  • Improve and innovate the use of technology within clinical practice and workflows.
  • Manages resources effectively to achieve identified project objectives and expected outcomes.
  • Participates in the production and distribution of communications related to technology through active internal networking, clinical liaison role, newsletters, announcements, and other technology-based mechanisms to health professionals.
  • Contributes to the development of Nursing Informatics practice and the education on the application of clinical technology in the practice of Nursing.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master preferred.
  • Active Tennessee RN license preferred.
  • Certification in Nursing Informatics a plus.
