Job Description:

The Active Transportation Program (ATP) Manager is the Department’s expert on the Active Transportation Program. Under the general direction of the Chief, Office of State Programs (OSP), a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Program Manager provides critical engineering program oversight and works with cities, counties, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies, districts, other Headquarters (HQ’s) units, the California Transportation Commission (CTC), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), tribal governments, other local, state and federal agencies, and the public. The ATP Manager acts as a technical expert performing the most difficult and complex engineering work which is critical to the Department’s mission and of statewide significance. This position will cover roughly 1/3 of the Districts throughout the state. This incumbent will also provide engineering guidance for the ATP technical and reporting staff (Transportation Engineer CT and Associate Governmental Program Analyst). The incumbent may act as a lead during the absence of the Chief, OSP and other professional staff.

Working Conditions

 

Position located in Sacramento.


The work environment is fast-paced and requires flexibility in managing time, priorities, and assignments. The work environment may include both office and field environments, including transportation construction zones. The incumbent may be required to travel to district offices, state or federal agencies, or other meeting facilities, and/or to the sites of proposed projects. While in their base operation, employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. However, due to periodic problems with heating and air conditioning, the building temperature may fluctuate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

 

Special Requirements

 

  • The position(s) may require medical and/or audio clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required
