Great American is searching for an Underwriting & Product Development Director to support embedded opportunities for existing units and to lead the development of new-to-Great American embedded products.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Supports Great American units with the tailoring of existing products for embedded environments including the establishment of underwriting guidelines, product rules, rates, and forms.
- Supports business units with analysis of embedded deals for underwriting profitability.
- Accountable for business strategy, book growth, risk selection / rejection, pricing strategies, retention, and profitability for embedded-centric lines
- Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
- Maintains a high level of customer service.
- Analyzes coverage and limit requests and decides what terms to offer.
- Prices business in accordance with company guidelines.
- Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
- Orders and screens miscellaneous reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, such as Motor Vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit checks, outside inspections, loss control, etc.
- Develops deal-specific underwriting workflows for embedded environments and works with technology teams to execute.
- Obtains regulatory approval of product; manages filing process and ensures compliance with statutory requirements.
- Responsible for developing and implementing a business plan to grow the embedded book through prospect identification and pipeline development, new business production, and account management in conjunction with the head of embedded business development.
- Manages and updates strategic plans, leads the annual business planning process, and determines reinsurance strategy for each product.
- Ensures that appropriate reports are available and appropriately used for monitoring product performance.
- Coordinates receipt of pricing and underwriting information. Assists with presentations to prospective clients.
- Interacts with shared service departments such as Corporate Claims and IT.
- May lead or participate in business unit, compliance, claims, agency, program reviews and audits (i.e. compliance audits, rate/pricing reviews, and agency reviews.)
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is preferred.
- Generally, 7-10+ years of underwriting and product experience in P&C insurance including experience with embedded insurance.
- Understanding of embedded insurance market trends.
- Must have strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
