Job Description:

Develops bioanalytical methods to identify and/or quantify xenobiotic chemicals or particulate pollutants in food animals.

Development of rapid laboratory and/or field-based analytical methods to quantitatively measure chemicals or particulates in animal matrices of biological or regulatory significance.

Develops analytical methodologies are ideally rapid, cost effective, easy to use, and applicable to a wide range of analytes having relevance to food safety.

Handles tissues and/or excreta from live and/or dead animals including, but not limited to, cattle, goats, mice, poultry, rabbits, rats, sheep, and swine.

Qualifications

 

 

This position requires a Ph.D in analytical, bioanalytical, clinical, or forensic chemistry; biochemistry; analytical pharmacology or toxicology, or a closely related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of instrumental and/or bioanalytical methods used in qualitative and quantitative clinical, forensic, or bioanalytical chemistries is highly desirable.

Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Chemistry Series, 1320
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience: course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
