Job Description:

Reporting to the Education Manager, this is a part time (10-15 hours/week) position that will take place Monday-Thursday from 9:30am-12pm.

Our ideal teacher will love to work with preschool (ages 2-5) aged students and have a passion for outdoor science education. Some of responsibilities that would be included, but are not limited to, are the following:

TEACHING AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

  • Plan, prep and teach Nature Explorer preschool classes in The Gardens at Heather Farm
  • Organize, clean, and properly stock activity materials to ensure enough for each child prior to class time
  • Prepare crafts, games, and activities prior to the start of each Nature Explorer class
  • Maintain Nature Explorer supplies and materials in store room; keep updated inventory of supplies, ordering/purchasing new materials as necessary
  • Arrive at GHF 15-30mins prior to the start of class to prep for the program
  • Contribute to and initiate new curriculum development based in science and program revisions as assigned and needed
  • Participate in community outreach and tabling events as scheduled

 

PROGRAM COORDINATION

  • Support program registration by tracking signups through google suite
  • Create, maintain, distribute and collect teaching materials
  • Check and respond to emails from staff and parents
  • Collaborate with GHF Garden Manager to determine how best to use The Garden as a teaching tool each season

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Finds joy in working with young children and their parents
  • Positive disposition and patient
  • Interest in participating in messy and fun activities with children
  • B.A. in a related field and/or a minimum 2-3 years relevant experience in science/garden/nature education
  • Some knowledge of STEM education principles, NGSS and classroom management strategies
  • Experience teaching in informal and/or formal classroom settings
  • Available to work weekday mornings
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all weather
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
  • Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Suite
  • Must be able to pass a Live Scan (fingerprinting background checks) and receive a negative TB-Test result
