We are looking for a talented Associate Software Engineer to join our team, who will deliver high-quality and impactful features to improve Ancestry. This work to be focused mainly on the application layer. We use the latest open source tools and technologies to create high performance web applications that run at scale. Your work will have a direct impact on user experience and product, from learning focused iterative prototyping to final feature build based upon requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement sophisticated web features

  • Write unit tests/integration tests

  • Participate in code reviews and disseminate best practices

  • Work in a highly collaborative Agile development process

  • Develop solutions to high performance and scalability standards

  • Collaborate in an open team environment with a product manager, UX designer, and QA engineers

  • Interact and communicate well with multiple cross-functional teams

 

Required Skills:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent

  • 1-2 years in software engineering development

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

  • Understanding of software design patterns and architectural principles

  • Experience with a server side language: Java, C#, or Node.js

  • Experience with web technologies: Javascript, CSS, HTML, JSON

  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks a plus

  • Experience with version control: Git

  • Familiarity with continuous-integration tools such as Jenkins is a plus

  • Good communication skills across a variety of teams including product management, testing and user experience.

As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $42,000 - $135,000 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision. The actual salary will vary by geographic region and job experience. We will share detailed compensation data for a specific location during the recruiting process.
