Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Web Developer to enhance the accessibility of their Shopify-based e-commerce platform. This short-term role is focused on optimizing product images through the creation and implementation of clear, descriptive alt text that complies with accessibility standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong grasp of Shopify customization, excellent written communication skills, and a passion for inclusivity and digital accessibility.

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract (3 Weeks)

Start Date: 5/4/2025

Hours per Week: 30–50 hours (flexible- no need to work standard 8-5, but must be available for occasional meetings)

Pay Rate: $35-$45/hr

Essential Job Functions

1. Review and analyze product images in Shopify to identify missing or incomplete alt text.
2. Develop concise, effective alt text following WCAG guidelines.
3. Create descriptions that include both the product name and a brief visual overview (e.g., size, color, features).
4. Collaborate with content and web teams to ensure brand-aligned messaging.
5. Test and verify image accessibility across screen readers and assistive technologies.
6. Use Shopify’s backend or third-party tools to streamline alt text implementation.
7. Stay informed on evolving web accessibility standards and recommend improvements.

Job Qualifications

1. Proven experience with Shopify (customization and backend operations).
2. Familiarity with WCAG 2.0/2.1 web accessibility standards.
3. Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
4. Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
5. Understanding of SEO principles, especially regarding alt text.
6. Experience with HTML, CSS, and image optimization preferred.
7. Passion for digital accessibility and inclusive design.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

1. Background in e-commerce or online retail.
2. Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers).
