Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer

Location: 100% Remote

Salary: $130,000 - $150,000

About the company:

We are the sound of history. For over a century, our technology has captured the world’s most important moments—from presidential speeches to legendary rock concerts. We don’t just manufacture audio equipment; we engineer the bridge between passion and performance. Our mission is to be the most trusted audio brand worldwide.

We are a place where engineering meets art, continuously pushing the boundaries of clarity, reliability, and innovation. We seek builders, audiophiles, and problem-solvers who want to work at the intersection of hardware and software. If you are ready to obliterate the status quo and define the future of audio, you belong here.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our software engineering team. While this role sits within a hardware-legacy organization, you will be building the critical middleware solutions that control and manage cutting-edge audio products and networking technologies.

This role is heavily backend-focused (approx. 60-80%), acting as the bridge between our physical devices and the applications users rely on. You will be working with modern stacks (Node v22, Typescript 5.6) and helping transition our middleware architectures from desktop to the cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Architect & Build: Design, code, and implement platform-independent middleware solutions that control sophisticated audio products.
  2. Backend Focus: Spend the majority of your time (60-80%) on backend logic using Node.js and Typescript, with some frontend work in Angular.
  3. Modernization: Assist in the strategic move of middleware solutions toward cloud-based architectures.
  4. Collaboration: Work within a cross-functional agile team (Product, QA, Systems Engineering) to define use cases and requirements.
  5. High Standards: Write elegant, reusable code with a focus on separation of concerns, high cohesion, and low coupling.
  6. Optimization: Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and implement security measures.

The Tech Stack:

  1. Language: Typescript (v5.6), JavaScript
  2. Runtime: Node.js (v22)
  3. API: RESTful APIs & GraphQL (GraphQL is a major part of our ecosystem)
  4. Frontend: Angular
  5. OS: Platform independent (Windows, Linux, macOS)

Who You Are:

  1. Education: You must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field). This is a strict requirement.
  2. Experience: 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  3. Technical Expert: You have deep proficiency in Node.js and Typescript. You understand operating system fundamentals and have experience with CI/CD processes.
  4. The "Bridge" Builder: You understand how to connect software applications to hardware devices.
  5. Communicator: You don't just code blindly; you ask the right questions before you build. You can explain complex technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
  6. Problem Solver: You enjoy tackling complex, "messy" problems and finding elegant solutions.

The Interview Process:

We move quickly for the right candidate. Here is what to expect:

  1. Technical Screen (45 mins): A hands-on coding session with the Hiring Manager (Typescript focus). We value communication here—we want to hear you ask questions and talk through your logic.
  2. Panel Interview: You will meet with ~5 members of the business (45 mins each). Four of these sessions will involve technical/coding discussions.

Benefits & Culture:

  1. Remote Flexibility: This role is fully remote within the US. You will visit our HQ in the Greater Chicago Area for initial onboarding (3-4 days) and typically once a year thereafter for team alignment.
  2. Work-Life Balance: Core hours are aligned with Central Standard Time (CST).
  3. Total Rewards: Competitive base salary, award-winning benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision), retirement savings, and paid time off.
