Position Summary
Clinkscales Elder Law Practice, P.A. is an Elder Care Law Firm committed to helping seniors and individuals with disabilities and their families navigate through the process of planning for the future.
The firm is currently seeking a detail-oriented assistant to provide administrative support to the Public Benefits Coordinator and Public Benefits Specialist.
Required Experience and Education
- High school diploma, plus prior experience as a secretary, paralegal or administrative assistant in a law firm or other professional service setting preferred.
- Background or training in Medicaid, Medicare, VA Benefits and Social Security preferred.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare resource assessments, HCBS applications, Medicaid long term care applications, and annual renewal applications.
- Assist with Medicaid redeterminations, grievances and appeals.
- Assist with Medicaid Estate Recovery correspondence and documentation.
- Advocate for clients on Medicare, Medicaid and VA benefit issues.
- Communicate with financial institutions, banks, investment advisors, county offices, etc., as needed, to gather necessary information and documentation.
- Interact and communicate with clients, families, and Long-Term Care professionals regarding status of Medicaid and other public benefits applications and rules.
- Assist clients and Public Benefits Team with procuring and compiling financial, personal, and clinical documentation to support Medicaid and other public benefits applications.
- Assist with preparation, submission and follow up on life insurance change and surrender forms.
- Maintain proficiency in Medicare, Medicaid and VA rules, regulations and state and federal laws.
- Assist clients with other federal and state government assistance applications, forms, and questions, such as Medicare and Social Security.
- Respond to staff questions regarding assigned cases and participate in life care plan and benefits team meetings.
- File correspondence and client documents in electronic and physical files.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Interest in learning the government benefits programs and processes.
- Ability to manage short as well as long-term deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work well with others; client service oriented
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Adobe Standard.
- Experience with Action Step case management software helpful.
- Effectively communicate through oral and written means, especially in situations that demand tact, empathy and diplomacy.
- Ability to work independently as well as accepting direction and following instructions.
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
- Flexible; able to adapt to change.

Working Conditions
Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime and weekend work will be required. There may be occasional overnight travel out-of-town.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
