Job Details

POSITION SUMMARY
The Psychiatrist provides direct medical treatment to members served within the scope of his/her licensure in the State. The Psychiatrist participates in the leadership of the program by participating and communicating with Program staff and members served. The Psychiatrist participates in the leadership of the program by ensuring superior quality medical practices that meet and exceed licensure requirements, payer standards and client and community needs.
In Voluntary Residential Substance Use Treatment Programs, the term “member” means “Resident” in consistence with Title 9.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

• Board eligibility or board certification as a Psychiatrist
• Completion of an accredited specialty training program as a Psychiatrist
• In accordance with State Administrative Code, this position requires a current State credential appropriate to this position and issued through the State Department of Health in the State where services are delivered.
• Must be CPR, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment
• All opportunities at Telecare are contingent upon successful completion and receipt of acceptable results of the applicable post-offer physical examination, 2-step PPD test for tuberculosis, acceptable criminal background clearances, excluded party sanctions, and degree or license verification. If the position requires driving, valid driver’s license, a motor vehicle clearance and proof of auto insurance is required at time of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional regulatory, contractual, or local requirements may apply.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Demonstrates our mission, purpose, values and beliefs in everyday language and contact with internal and external stakeholders.

Assessment and Diagnosis:

• Interviews members served to gather relevant history including but not limited to current psychiatric symptoms, previous psychiatric treatment and hospitalizations, previous response to medications, substance use, physical health issues, history of abuse or neglect, history of violence, and pertinent family history
• Utilizes effective communication methods to foster the therapeutic relationship and promote positive clinical outcomes
• Gathers data from multiple sources including reviews of previous medical records, psychosocial and other evaluations performed by multidisciplinary team, and interviews of family members as appropriate
• Using data gathered, completes comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of members served within designated timeframes. The psychiatric evaluation must include content areas as determined by Practice Site policies as well as regulatory and Telecare standards.
• Develops a diagnosis based on the data gathered in accordance with ICD-10/DSM-5 classification systems
• Evaluates need for involuntary hold status and release as appropriate
• Provides necessary legal documentation for involuntary status members served. Appear in court for hearings as required and ordered by the court.

Treatment:

• Develops plan for treatment based on data gathered during assessment and input from members served as well as other

sources. Ensures that the plan for treatment is in accordance with evidence-based standards and practice guidelines.

• Works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to implement plan for treatment. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings. The team may include various disciplines including but not limited to mental health therapists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, substance recovery counselors, wellness coaches, and educators.
• Orders further diagnostic and laboratory testing as indicated
• Coordinates care with other consulting physicians as indicated
• Prescribes psychiatric medications based on clinical indicators and results of diagnostic and laboratory testing as appropriate. Monitors and documents response to medications and makes adjustments as appropriate
• Educates members served and families about the benefits and adverse effects of prescribed treatment options
• Monitors/reviews progress in treatment in collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team. This process may include review of relevant laboratory or other diagnostic tests, communication with multidisciplinary team members, review of daily documentation, and ongoing members served interviews
• Makes necessary modifications to prescribed treatment regimens based on regular monitoring and review of progress
• Monitors and documents significant changes in members served condition. Coordinates transfers to and from acute medical facilities as indicated
• Provides crisis intervention and referrals as appropriate

Discharge:

• Works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to conclude treatment when clinically indicated and transitions members served to other levels of care as appropriate
• Makes appropriate referrals to other healthcare and community resources as indicated

Other:

• Prepares and maintains documentation, records, discharge summaries, and reports in a timely manner in accordance with established rules, regulations, and program guidelines
• Performs duties within Scope of Practice in accordance with professional standards, established clinical protocols, and related Federal, State, and County regulatory requirements
• Participates in Medical Quality Review, Peer Review and Utilization Review processes as required by the Facility, County, and/or other relevant entity

For Voluntary Residential Substance Use Treatment Programs:
o Prescribes detoxification medication for long term recovery
o Monitors health of members
o Oversees medical staff
