Job Description:

Construction Innovations is seeking highly technical candidates who are excellent multi-taskers and quick decision-makers to serve as Preconstruction Managers for the electrical and low voltage systems of a commercial building, industrial, utility-scale solar, and/or medium-to-high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution projects. This key role is responsible for developing a project from its conceptual phase through its final design, including all aspects of the bid/estimating process from review of plans and specs, performing quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping, and bidding of projects, to soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors/suppliers through completion of the bid/estimating effort.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLIENT RELATIONS/BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:
 

  • Maintains existing client relationships
  • Cultivates relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Attends client functions and/or industry-related events, as needed
  • Prepares responses to RFPs and RFQs
  • Conducts site visits as necessary
  • Develops, negotiates, and closes new business with existing clients
  • Follows up with clients to negotiate past estimated projects or future work and regularly obtains the status of submitted proposals.
  • Solicits feedback to determine performance and documents findings for continuous improvement of the client relationship and company products and services
     

ESTIMATING/BUDGETING:
 

  • Develops conceptual designs and estimates for electrical projects
  • Fills in design gaps for the completion of estimates
  • Ensures the most current design information is being used in the preparation of estimates
  • Performs and/or reviews take-offs, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze revised plans and specifications for changes that may affect the budget
  • Develops, solicits, and analyzes electrical equipment vendor and subcontractor bid packages
  • Determines pricing based on experience, historical data, and market conditions
  • Tracks and manages estimates throughout the preconstruction phase, and keeps client and project team aware of current estimates and impacts of design decisions
     

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
 

  • Clarifies and documents the scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements
  • Communicates the project design requirements to the engineering team and attends design meetings with the project team and/or client once a project is awarded
  • Acts as the liaison between Sales and Marketing, operations, and engineering
  • Manages project turnover from Sales and Marketing to the Project Management team
  • Drives awarded projects to contract execution in collaboration with the Project Manager
  • Supports Project Management team during the construction phase of the project to ensure customers receive what was promised at the time it was bid
     

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Preconstruction Manager spends most of their time in an office environment. The office is an open and collaborative space where work is performed both independently and with the team to ensure that customer requests are met.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

This position reports directly to the Sales and Marketing Manager.

LOCATION:

Construction Innovations facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA and Mather, CA

COMPENSATION:

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $83,800 - $120,000. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Qualifications

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
 

  • 5+ years’ experience in estimating and/or project management in an electrical, construction, or consulting company
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field, preferred
  • Electrical apprenticeship completion and journey-level electrical construction experience preferred
  • Thorough understanding of electrical installation methods, National Electrical Code (NEC), and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) for renewable, commercial, industrial, and utility construction
  • Ability to read electrical, mechanical, structural, and architectural plans
  • General product and product installation knowledge
  • Awareness of market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive intelligence
  • Ability to achieve goals and/or targets with a sense of urgency, without direct supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts at a time
  • Ability to travel as needed, up to 10% of the time
     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • Regularly sit, stand, and walk for long and short distances.
  • Required to hear with or without correction to be able to interpret and receive information and directions.
  • Regularly required to communicate: verbal and written, to describe and explain detailed, important, and accurate instructions.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move material up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
