Job Description:

The University of Arizona Press seeks a detail-oriented, resourceful, and enthusiastic Marketing Specialist to join the premier publisher of academic, regional, and literary books in the state of Arizona. The Marketing Specialist will coordinate the Press’s active exhibits program to promote the Press and its books to various academic communities; will assist the marketing department in the creation of web and social media content; and will provide support for the other parts of the marketing program, including course adoption promotion and public events. The Press publishes approximately 50 new books each year with specialties in a variety of fields, including Indigenous studies, Latinx studies, anthropology, and books about Arizona and the Southwest.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Key contributor in the development and execution of the exhibits program, including:
    • Monitoring budget and deadlines.
    • Scheduling exhibits, tracking deadlines, drafting book lists, designing order forms, shipping books and supplies, and executing promotional strategies.
    • Assisting in the development of the annual exhibits budget in consultation with the marketing manager and managing expenses associated with exhibits program, seeing ways to maximize income from expenses.
    • Recommending merchandising and visual presentation of Press brand, authors, and books based on audience knowledge.
    • Tracking sales and trends for conferences the Press should consider attending.
    • Increasing the Press’s visibility and sales presence at conferences the Press cannot attend in person.
    • Manage the Press’s POS system in consultation with the Marketing Manager, Business Manager, and Bursar’s Office and maintain documentation and training for staff.
    • Purchasing exhibit supplies and furniture, as required.
  • Supporting Publicity Manager with author events, including purchasing food and supplies, processing sales, and providing signage and merchandising.
    • Represent the Press at local and out-of-state book exhibits, interacting with authors and customers, up to ten times per year; out-of-state travel may be required, with trips typically lasting 3-4 days.
    • Assisting in the development of promotional materials, marketing collateral, website & social media content, including: designing a variety of marketing collateral, including exhibits program advertisements, signage, brochures, fliers, sales materials, and order forms to support exhibits and author events using Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Creating content for Press’s website, social networks, and seasonal catalogs, including virtual exhibits and web landing pages.
    • Creating social media content tied to the timely promotion of exhibits.
    • Serving as peer editor of content created by colleagues.
  • Assist the marketing manager with sales projects and administrative duties, including:
    • Promoting classroom use of books by conducting targeted outreach to instructors and tracking, approving, and filling desk and exam copy requests.
    • Handling a wide variety of administrative duties, including managing data; handling inquiries from authors, customers, and others, referring inquiries as needed; monitoring and maintaining author questionnaires; miscellaneous tasks as needed to support marketing department; and prioritizing workload to meet operational goals.
  • Assist with award nominations and scholarly endorsements.
  • May coordinate the activities of student interns and employees.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with cashiering and/or customer service.
  • Experience in the book industry.
