Summary of Primary Functions
A key component of the role is supporting the Director of Permitting, Environmental, and Social Responsibility, maintaining compliance, investigating and implementing the best practices for environmental stewardship, and timely development and execution of project permits.
The position's primary function is supporting the Ivanhoe Electric – Santa Cruz Project, defining and implementing best practices for the project's development while providing opportunities to add value. Development of projects consists of ensuring that the project(s) operate in a sustainable and responsible manner while complying with all applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities include management of environmental compliance and permits for current operations, and support and oversight of water resource studies and permits.
Specific Responsibilities/Essential Functions

- Responsible for upholding and demonstrating the importance of using and maintaining Ivanhoe Electric’s cloud-based, digitized, and centralized safety program.
- Work safely at all times with a focus on actively identifying, managing, and eliminating risks, while setting an example for others in doing so.
- Maintain quality work areas and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), and organization in neat, tidy condition and good working order.
- Systematic use of personal protective equipment appropriate for the nature of work being performed at all times.
- Attendance, participation, and demonstration of leadership and stewardship in daily toolbox meetings and safety and operational planning sessions with site management.
Water Resources and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure that the project(s) operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards. This includes developing and implementing environmental procedures and plans to minimize the impact of the project on the environment.
- Assistance with preparing and submitting applications to various agencies/ boards with jurisdiction over required permits and/or approvals.
- Oversee baseline studies related to project impacts and current and future project mitigation (e.g., air quality, biodiversity, cultural studies, traffic, noise, visual impacts, etc.)
- Review and respond to data requests from agencies and internal staff on permit applications and applicable studies related to project permits.
- Under the direction of the Director, work closely with the agencies on the status of permits and ensure they are processed in a timely manner.
- Manage environmental field staff.
- Coordinate and manage reclamation of disturbance areas in accordance with Arizona State Mine Inspector reclamation standards and permits.
- Manage consultants and coordinate projects/paperwork to obtain supplemental permitting to acquire applicable permits.
- Assist with hydrologic and hydrogeologic contractor support, site studies, and determinations regarding water resources.
- Assist with developing and maintaining water related permits for the project.
- Manage and maintain water and wastewater systems for the project.
- Support and manage water resources drilling, pumping, and treatment options.
- Coordinate and work closely with the Operations and Hydrology teams.
- Under the direction of the Director, meet with agencies and environmental stakeholders to present the project, inform, and request approval.
- Obtain amendments for existing permits and plans.
- Manage input from engineers and technical experts to ensure permits offer maximum operational flexibility and minimal impact.
- Track active permits and compliance obligations and provide updates and reports as requested.
- Assist with providing guidance and training to employees and contractors regarding environmental obligations.
- Assist with project budgets, including the development, forecasting and tracking of project costs.
- Attend regular meetings of regional municipal governments including Casa Grande, Pinal County Board of Supervisors, Groundwater Users Advisory Council, etc.
- Supervise and mentor Environmental staff.
- Responsible for identifying and managing risks associated with the project(s) including environmental risks, social risks, and financial risks.
- Developing and implementing risk management strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the project's long-term viability.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental studies, hydrology, hydrogeology, ecology or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of direct experience managing environmental compliance and permitting for mining projects.
- Experience with the water related permits.
- Demonstrated experience working with federal, state, and local permitting agencies.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize and follow projects through to completion.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to summarize and concisely communicate on complex issues.
- Strong computer and GIS skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
- Ability to identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
- General understanding of mining operations.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance systems.
- Ability to drive results and ensure completion of time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors throughout the year in all weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
