The Troy Public Library is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 600,000 visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community. The Community Engagement Department's bookmobile is a brand-new addition to the Library. Its mission is to provide library services to patrons who may not be able to visit the building due to illness or injury, age or disability, or lack of time or access to transportation.

 

Under the direction of the Head of Community Engagement, the Bookmobile Coordinator performs a variety of professional and public service tasks in order to support bookmobile services in the City.

 

DUTIES

  • Work with the Head of Community Engagement to select bookmobile stops and assess the success of each stop.
  • Assist bookmobile patrons by locating materials, placing holds, checking items out and in, and managing patron records.
  • Assist with planning and executing off-site programming for patrons of all ages.
  • Assist in managing bookmobile inventory.
  • Drive bookmobile to various locations throughout Troy.
  • Represent the Library at fairs, festivals, and other community events.
  • Present a positive, professional, and friendly face to all members of the community.
  • Perform related work as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • High school degree or GED equivalent and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college credits. Selected candidates must submit proof of educational attainment and official transcripts at time of offer.
  • Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated interest in working in outreach and bookmobile services.
  • Ability to travel around the community, loading and unloading materials and equipment in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, ice and wind.
  • Ability to drive a large van using good judgment and safe driving skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic resources, Microsoft Office applications, social networking sites, and mobile technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one month of appointment.
  • As a condition of employment, will be required to obtain a Chauffeur License and Medical Card as required by the State of Michigan by date of hire.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.


PREFERENCES

  • Public library experience.
  • Master of Library Science degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Experience with community engagement or outreach services, especially with a diverse population.
  • Current Chauffeur License.
  • Knowledge of Polaris Library System Software.


HOURS: Full-time, year-round. Forty (40) hours per week. Schedule will include day, evening, and weekend shifts.
