Summary of Position
The Lead Security Officer is responsible for setting the example and providing professional security leadership for the campus. This requires full knowledge of Gateway Church ministries, processes, and policies to effectively create a culture that’s consistent with Gateway DNA. This position leads the campus Safety Services Team as directed by the Campus Operations Director, ensuring that their team fulfills all required training and is properly equipped for their duties. Understanding the relational connection between the campus, support ministries, and Central Safety Services is critical. Top notch communication, healthy leadership, and logistics skills are a must to steward organizational policies, staff, and volunteers. This role collaborates with Central departments and the Campus Operations Director to support weekly events on campus, Conferences and other events as needed.
Basic Requirements:
- 21 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Pass background check and be willing to provide evidence of financial stability.
- Currently possess a Texas Department of Public Safety Level 3 Security Officer Commission. If not commissioned at time of hire, must earn a Commissioned Security Officer License within the first 45 days of employment.
- Possess or be willing to acquire (at personal cost) required Gateway approved Level 3 equipment: firearm, vest, duty belt, handcuffs, etc.
- Must be in excellent physical condition and be able to pass a Physical Agility Test before functioning in the role.
- Willing to travel to and complete regular required trainings consisting of security, medical, firearm, physical agility, OC spray, etc.
Principal Job Responsibilities
- Hold excellent ethical attributes and character. Behaviors, on and off duty, should be above reproach on behalf of Gateway Church.
- Punctual to all assignments. The Lead Security Officer is often the first person on-site and the last to leave. Must be on-time for campus radio checks with Central Security.
- Attend campus staff meetings on behalf of the Safety Team to provide a unique perspective representing their department.
- Meet regularly with the Campus Operations Director for self-improvement, coaching and campus safety improvement.
- Expected to sustain a pro-active work ethic and be self-motivated in managing daily tasks and work efforts.
- Maintain example-setting personal hygiene, fitness, health, and marksmanship skills as part of operational readiness.
- Well-groomed professional appearance, including clothing that is well-maintained, free of odors and stains.
- Must have an operational knowledge of tactical proficiency (i.e. room-clearing, going hands-on with subjects, etc.), firearm knowledge, and de-escalation skills.
- Help to develop protocols and procedures for all campus safety guidelines including inclement weather, active shooter, and general orders.
- Be able to stand in front of large groups of staff and volunteers to give professional presentations on campus safety protocols (i.e. PowerPoint).
- Maintain excellent communication with supervisors, pastoral staff, group leaders, staff, volunteers, members, and guests.
- Able to lead and guide a Security Team consisting of a mixture of staff, volunteers, contractors, and local law enforcement with the ability to have healthy corrective/coaching conversations as needed.
- Deal effectively with complex issues while striving for a comprehensive approach to reach effective outcomes.
- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to relate and communicate with the public, staff, volunteers, and local law enforcement officials.
- Resourceful – know how to address inquiries and direct to the proper authority.
- Must be adequately skilled with excellent logistics and computer skills (Mac & PC). The Lead Security Officer is responsible for scheduling safety personnel for all campus events, monitoring and fulfilling campus calendar requests, writing detailed reports, and communicating with the organization in a manner that sets a healthy example as the leader of security for the campus.
- Coordinate with ministries that hosts events to ensure proper communication detail is in place to work through any needs and issues as they arise during the planning stage.
- Help to manage payroll for Security Support Staff, Security Contractors, and Law Enforcement.
- Develop and oversee a volunteer Medical Team and volunteer Plain Clothes Security Team.
- Expected to cover last-minute events, shift drops, or shifts not picked up after appropriate attempts to find coverage.
- Occasionally serve as the overnight On-Call Officer (OCO) outside of normal working hours for all of Gateway's DFW properties consisting of emergency/last minute coverage for events, property damage, inclement weather, loss of power, and fire watch.
- Other duties as assigned.
Systems:
- Proficient in access control management software to oversee door schedules in accordance with event timing and access for staff and volunteers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suites, Slack, Zoom, When I Work, Planning Center Online, and other software as needed.
- Accountable for managing and issuing all Fobs and Keys for the campus.
- Responsible for posting Security Support job requisition. Work with the Campus Operations Director to review applications, conduct interviews, and hire candidates.
- Help to manage Security budget.
