Are you an experienced HPC and Infrastructure Administrator with a desire to excel? If so, then Talent Software Services may have the job for you! Our client is seeking an experienced HPC and Infrastructure Administrator to work at their company 100% remotely.


Position Summary: Install, configure, write and release code; manage multiple test and production environments triaging and resolving operational issues working with development teams on system design and performance tuning and designing and implementing database and server security protocols.ï1⁄2 Work directly with internal customers to provide analysis, recommendations and solutions for creating, upgrading, integrating, and managing database and application systems in a distributed environment.


Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  1. Client is at the vanguard in biological and biomedical research, and scientific investigators at Client and affiliate hospitals continue to push the envelope, developing Client approaches to the study of biological processes both at the bench and via computational methods. The client's Department of Information Technology, a key partner in supporting such computation-based research, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced HPC and Infrastructure Administrator interested in empowering the school's computational research community by leading HPC, cloud and lab-based research computing infrastructure design and support.
  2. The Administrator will drive the design and implementation of modern, reusable, sustainable systems and configurations, using up-to-date best practices. In particular, the position will be responsible for policy-based provisioning of bare-metal-as-a-service, containerized solutions (Docker, Singularity), fully automated/Continuous Integration driven system configuration, and service reporting, monitoring, and trending.
  3. This position will also architect and manage cloud-based computing on platforms such as AWS or Azure, and hybrid cloud/HPC computing models, as they pertain to research computing workflows.
  4. In addition, they will lead large scale system automation beyond the specific scope of HPC, using the latest DevOps technologies such as containers for application deployment and reproducibility, distributed storage and key-store systems, configuration management and orchestration. This position has a long-term focus, both within and outside of the direct context of DevOps, managing technologies and tools that serve as a stepping stone to future services of benefit to the greater client's community, while maintaining the superior on-site response and expertise client's researchers and faculty are accustomed to.
  5. The HPC and Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for modernizing and maintaining existing systems as well as acting as a mentor and resource for other team members.


Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of five years' post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience
  2. Development experience in Bash and at least two additional languages (Java, C, Python, Perl, Ruby, Go, etc.)
  3. Advanced *NIX/Linux system administration (Red Hat/Debian) experience
  4. Experience with automation and configuration management (Puppet)
  5. General Networking skills (OSI model, Layer 2 & 3 switching and routing, TCP/IP...)
  6. Knowledge of storage, network, and server hardware
  7. Experience evaluating and deploying open source tools
  8. Cloud/AWS/Azure (EC2/EBS/S3/SES/EBS) experience
  9. Source management (git/mercurial/svn)
  10. Firm understanding of *NIX/Linux and application debugging
  11. SAN and NAS knowledge, including iSCSI, NFS and FC (EMC / Isilon)
  12. Parallel file systems, Lustre, GPFS, OneFS, MooseFS
  13. System monitoring and configuration (Zabbix/Nagios/Ganglia/Sensu)
  14. Performance tuning and troubleshooting complex systems
  15. Relational and NoSQL databases
  16. Application load balancing solutions for scaling and HA
  17. Scientific research support experience
  18. Bioinformatics software experience
  19. Management of large data sets
  20. Medical Informatics or Healthcare data experience
  21. Protected data, HIPAA, PHI experience
  22. Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation; NGS, Microscopy, Mass Spectrometry, etc.
