Job Description:

We invite you to apply for the Document Design and Communications Coordinator career with our Communications and Public Affairs division. In this role, you will create, revise, format, and publish print and digital media for Argonne clients, leadership, and sponsors. The work often involves projects that are unique, complex, challenging, and require branding conformance. You will also:

  • Successfully support multiple projects simultaneously on time and within budget.

  • Oversee the entire formatting and production process and manage workflow.

  • Mentor other Document Formatting team members and contractors, review their work, and provide guidance.

  • Train colleagues and contractors in procedures and formatting best practices.

  • Employ independent judgment, creative problem solving, and a high level of technical expertise. Exercise excellent planning, initiative, and discretion.

  • Provide other specialized services related to document production and publishing, web development, reformatting documents for 508 compliance, working with citation management systems, and media postings as needed.

  • Work under minimal supervision independently or as part of an interdisciplinary project team.

  • Develop on-the-job skills in Drupal content management, Adobe InDesign, SmartSheet work management software and using LaTex for document creation. May need to learn other software as well.

Position Requirements

  • Experience in planning and preparing communications of significant importance, visibility, and/or of a confidential nature, requiring diplomacy, tact, persuasion, and/or negotiation skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of document production and publishing practices and standards, typography, and formatting principles with the ability to create products that effectively communicate with intended audiences and support the Lab’s sponsored brands.
  • Advanced skill and experience in Microsoft Word, as well as Adobe Acrobat, Excel, and PowerPoint to meet the requirements of specific assignments.
  • Experience in data input and database management.
  • Advanced skill in operating computers (both PC and Macintosh) and peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.).
  • Knowledge of commonly accepted reference sources for English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Familiarity with the AP Stylebook and The University of Chicago Style Guide.
  • Ability to interpret editing and proofreading symbols and proofread all types of content accurately.
  • Ability to show initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, and responsiveness.
