The Development Manager is a key leadership position accountable for identifying, cultivating, and securing development prospects to support the revenue goals established by the Chief Development Officer and Chief Executive Officer. This role involves building and managing relationships with corporate partners, foundations, and individual donors to advance the mission of the organization. Additionally, the Director of Development will play a critical role in planning and executing donor-related events and supporting the overall development team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising Strategy and Execution:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet revenue goals.
- Create specific action plans for each corporate sponsorship account managed.
- Collaborate with the CDO to set annual fundraising targets and long-term financial goals.
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
- Identify, cultivate, and secure donations from corporate partners, foundations, and individual donors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with major donors, ensuring regular communication and recognition.
- Oversee donor stewardship activities to ensure donors feel valued and engaged.
Corporate Partnerships:
- Identify potential corporate partners and develop customized proposals to secure support.
- Manage and grow existing corporate partnerships, ensuring fulfillment of sponsorship agreements.
- Create opportunities for corporate partners to engage with the organization's mission.
- Create sponsorship proposals around donor related events.
Event Planning and Execution:
- Support the planning and execution of donor-related events, including fundraising brunch, donor recognition events, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with the development team to ensure events align with fundraising goals and enhance donor relationships.
Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with the development team to achieve fundraising targets and expand the donor base.
- Provide guidance and support to development team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Assist in the recruitment and management of volunteers to support fundraising activities.
Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the organization’s mission, vision, and impact to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to craft compelling proposals, reports, and donor correspondence.
- Strong presentation skills, capable of engaging and inspiring donors, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
- Effective interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with donors, colleagues, and volunteers.
- Skilled in active listening, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Track and report on fundraising progress, providing regular updates to the CDO and CEO.
- Analyze fundraising data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare detailed reports for the CDO to share with board of directors and other stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related role within a non-profit organization.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and building long-term donor relationships.
- Strong understanding of corporate partnership development and grant management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically and translate strategies into actionable plans.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in fundraising software and CRM systems. 2 years’ experience in Salesforce preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal) necessary in order to communicate diplomatically and effectively with volunteers, high level donors, and staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to attend events and meet with donors.
- Some travel may be required for donor meetings and events.
