About The Trustees: The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is the nation’s premier conservation and preservation organization. Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers, we preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity. We have helped protect more than 50,000 acres, including 27,000+ acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. We are a non-profit conservation organization funded and supported entirely by our visitors, supporters, volunteers, and our 100,000 Member households.

Role Description: This is an entry level role for anyone interested in learning about nonprofit development. The role has a start date of July 1st. Reporting to the Director of Annual Fund, the Development Associate will contribute to a range of development activities to achieve annual revenue goals. The primary responsibilities include supporting senior development staff on critical projects, executing detail-oriented tasks efficiently, and engaging with donors effectively.

Essential Functions
 

  • Annual Fund (40%)
    • Organize and manage quarterly development mailings and follow-ups.
    • Write acknowledgment and appreciation letters weekly.
    • Communicate with donors via email and phone, managing relationships.
    • Support daily operations in real-time.
  • Events (20%)
    • Prepare for events by updating guest lists and creating name tags.
    • Attend and assist at events, including setup and cleanup.
    • Register guests and engage with donors to nurture relationships.
  • Database Management (15%)
    • Update donor records and create queries for prospecting and major gift officers.
  • Prospecting (15%)
    • Target potential donor groups and create written content for mail and email communications.
    • Cultivate relationships with potential new donors.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
    • Conduct prospect research during high-volume event periods.
    • Assist with grant proposals, event reports, and tasks supporting department leaders.

Qualifications
 

  • Minimum Level of Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred Level of Education: Associate degree or vocational/technical school
     

Other Skills & Competencies
 

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and CRM databases.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with donors.

Compensation & Benefits

The Trustees offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to join a dedicated team across Massachusetts who are passionate about preserving our natural and historic treasures. This is a full-time, hourly, nonexempt, position with an hour rate equivalent to $50,000/year.
