Central Washington University is recruiting a Content Developer to join our University Advancement team in Ellensburg, Washington. This role is an important member of our team as they enhance the vision for the University. The role is a fully remote position. We're offering a salary, depending on experience, from $53,698 - $77,862 annually plus the awesome CWU benefits.

The Role:

The Content Developer position position for University Advancement Communications exists to generate content for all University Advancement (UA) marketing, communication and media platforms, including news of CWU alumni, donors, student scholarships recipients, faculty and programs. The position also assists in planning, managing, and implementing multifaceted marketing and communications campaigns that support alumni and donor engagement efforts. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, Communications and Engagement, this position is part of a team whose mission is to increase the engagement of the university's multiple stakeholders through effective communications to promote donations to the university and inspire stronger relationships with the university.

Job Duties

Content Development and Review:

  1. Own content development process from start to finish.
  2. Write, edit, and proof a variety of Advancement-related content, including the annual Fiscal Year Impact Report, stories for the Crimson & Black magazine, press releases, alumni and donor features, and the University Advancement (UA) newsletter.
  3. Draft and edit letters and messages from the Vice President of Advancement and university board leaders for a variety of internal and external audiences.
  4. Review and assist in the writing of email and print communications including annual appeal content, donor and stewardship correspondence, and fundraising materials.
  5. Conduct interviews with alumni, and donors; transcribe and craft compelling news stories and feature articles.
  6. Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate the release and publication of web content, press releases, features.
  7. Review and edit content in marketing and communications plans.
  8. Write social media content for deliverables.
  9. Asset collection for deliverables.


Research:

  1. Research and identify stories for magazine content development.
  2. Host regular check-ins and standing meetings with campus partners to develop content calendars and identify stories.
  3. Conduct research through platforms such as RE, Scholarship Central, and Google Alerts to support content creation and stay informed on university and alumni news.
  4. Prepare interview questions and review questions developed by student interns (if applicable) ahead of donor or alumni meetings.
  5. Research industry trends and best practices related to marketing, communications, and content development.
  6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, English or related field
  2. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including flexibility in writing style and tone
  3. Strong editing and proofing skills, attention to detail
  4. Progressive responsibility and experience in copywriting, content development, communications and/or marketing
  5. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  6. Software proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat
  7. Ability to work effectively with internal and external clients, at all levels
  8. Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment
  9. OR any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience writing advertising copy
  2. Experience creating content for a variety of mediums (marketing materials, press releases, newsletter, web)
  3. Experience facilitating communications for said variety of mediums
  4. Excellent presentation skills
  5. Higher education experience (especially development or alumni relations communication/marketing experience)
  6. Experience developing marketing and communication for annual campaigns, multiple programs simultaneously
  7. Life experiences that demonstrate an ability to contribute to CWU's vision, mission, and values.
  8. A record of promoting institutional excellence in the work environment.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position has a minimum annual salary of $53,698 and maximum annual salary of $77,862 Tier 1: $53,698 - $61,753 (Expected hiring range): Considered fair value for a newly hired employee meeting the basic requirements of the job, and those who are new to the role. Tier 2: $61,753 - $69,807 (Potentially considered hiring range): May be considered if a fully competent applicant has 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, and able to quickly assimilate and consistently meet or exceed performance expectations. Tier 3: $69,807 - $77,862 (Longevity range, not considered for hiring)

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch)

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent, in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry, and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. It will also be essential to be able to travel around campus for meetings, tasks, events. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
