We are seeking a candidate to join our code and zoning team in our New York City or Boston locations.
This position will report to the Senior Principal of our Coding and Zoning division and will provide code and zoning consultation services, including but not limited to:
- Review plans for compliance with NYC building code, energy code, fire code and zoning resolution as well as other rules and regulations
- Review plans for compliance with zoning and code analysis, NYS multiple dwelling law and construction safety codes
- Command of areas such as egress, fire protection, energy code compliance,
- Understanding and experience in interpretation of other International Builidng Code urisdictions
- Understanding of other NYCbuilding approval requirements from NYC DEP, NYSDEC, NYC DOT
- Meet with architects, engineers, owners and staff to deliver clear and concise decisions and strategies in order to lead to approvals of plans
- Understanding when to apply the NYC 1968 or 2008, 2014 codes
- Maintain familiarity with the International Building Code (IBC) and NYC DOB rules and regulations
- Provide visibility to Director in Charge status, timelines, key concerns
- Assist Director in Charge with writing new proposal estimates
- Respond and effectively communicate to clients when project emergencies arise
- Present in-house seminars or related topics periodically
- Working knowledge of SIA certifications and how they apply during construction
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6-10 years with extensive experience with NYC Coding\Zoning
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering
- R.A or P.E license required
- Extensive experience in code and/or zoning
- Building Code interpretation required (NYC)
- Building Code (ICC) of other jurisdictions preferred such as MA or FL
- Experience in writing code reports for development sites, litigation
- Expert Witness experience is a plus
- Specialty in one of the following; accessibility, fire code, flood regulations preferred
- Preferred experience in Zoning resolution and International Building Code (IBC)
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent PC computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, drafting software such as BlueBeam and AutoCad
- Must demonstrate an ability to work in a dynamic team environment and solve complex problems
