Interpreter services are a critical aspect of effective patient care, patient satisfaction, and directly links to the promise of providing

personalized healthcare to improve people's lives. The department provides interpretation and translation of critical medical information to physicians and health care providers who see patients with Limited English Proficiency by providing highly qualified and well-trained staff in medical interpretation via three resources: 1) Telephone 2) Two-way video services and 3) On-site Interpreters. Interpreter Services are provided 24/7 to ensure all Limited English Proficient, Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients, their families and surrogate decision-makers are able to understand their medical conditions and treatment options in their primary language and have interpreter services provided to them during the delivery of all significant healthcare services.

 

The Program Coordinator for Interpreter Services primary role is to assist the Interpreter Services department in partnership with others by coordinating, scheduling The Ohio State University Wexner Medical staff interpreters and agency interpreters, in addition to arranging telephone and video language services to respond to the communication needs of the Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients. The position works closely with internal customers by coordinating appointment schedules in a safe, cost effective, and clinically appropriate manner to provide the appropriate level of care through onsite, video or telephone interpreter services. The position actively negotiates schedules with inpatient and outpatient representatives throughout the day and occasionally weeks in advance to plan and minimize annual expenses. The coordinator monitors and reports language use, number of hours, appointments and monthly financial expenditures for onsite, agency, telephone, and video delivery method. Job responsibilities include providing logistics and assisting OSU interpreters and contracted agency interpreters to foster patient, interpreters, and Position Summary:

Minimum Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education & exp. Customer service, interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem solving, communication & computer skills including office automation technology. Ability to collaborate; prepare moderate to complex documents; multitask under pressure; perform math calculations; communicate/work with a diverse population; handle sensitive information/inquiries; collect data, establish facts & draw conclusions; train, develop & supervise staff; establish/maintain friendly work environment; carry out instructions and resolve complaints. Knowledge of standard office practices & procedures. Preferred: At least 1 year in a call center environment in a health care setting in interpreter services; fluent in a second language with demonstrated skills/experience in medical interpretation.
