General Description
The Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for ensuring all Alpha Delta Pi written, electronic, and printed communications adhere to AP and Sorority style guidelines while maintaining brand consistency. This role manages email marketing, sources and edits content for internal and external communications, and collaborates with professional staff and volunteers on content development for publications like The Chronicle and Blog. The Assistant Director of Communications also trains professional staff and volunteers on communication standards, supports document updates, and contributes to data collection efforts to drive continuous process improvements.
Duties PERFORMED
- Develop and maintain organizational communications guidelines and standards including but not limited to style guides, boiler plate copy, canned responses, voice and tone guidance, technical writing guidelines, and language considerations that influence how we talk about Alpha Delta Pi.
- Assess recurring issues/questions and look for automation and self-service solutions for inbound inquiries across Sorority community channels.
- Source, solicit, and edit informative content from staff and volunteer contributors to share with internal and external audiences via various communication channels.
- Utilize the Sorority’s mass email platform to generate electronic communications, including but not limited to The Chronicle, Officer Digests, Volunteer Chronicle, Family Chronicle, Facilities Corporation Chronicle, and other targeted messages to Sorority stakeholders that adhere to organizational brand and style standards.
- Track and Analyze KPIs related to email communication success and report findings and make recommendations to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
- Guide staff and volunteers in usage and adherence to organizational communications guidelines and standards and conduct learning and training activities as requested.
- Review all written and digital communications and resource documents for grammatical accuracy and adherence to Associated Press (AP) and organizational style.
- Support the manual and form update process in collaboration with Sorority staff and volunteers by ensuring all manuals and official Sorority documents are consistent in branded appearance and style and updates are made across all documents and forms.
- Serve as an internal resource for writing, editing, and proofreading needs to ensure one voice across official Alpha Delta Pi communications.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications and other members of the Strategy and Communications team to develop, solicit, review, and publish content for the Alpha Delta Pi Blog and other channels that may require story-focused or informative writing assistance.
- Work closely with the Membership Engagement Team to identify and discuss innovative ideas launched by chapters, alumnae associations, campuses, ADPi Properties, ADPi Housing and Facilities, the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation, and other groups as well as create, pilot, and implement new communication strategies for the Sorority.
- Collaborate and foster meaningful partnership with The Alpha Delta Pi Foundation, ADPi Properties, Inc., ADPi Housing and Facilities, and other enterprise-wide entities to promote value to shared audiences.
- Contribute to Alpha Delta Pi publications such as The Adelphean, the Chronicles, and other outlets as needed or requested.
- Proactively identify compelling storytelling opportunities for various applications and usages.
- Perform other duties/special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Strategy and Communications or Executive Director.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously to completion on time and on budget (when applicable).

- Represent Alpha Delta Pi within related professional organizations as approved by supervisors.
- Promote a sense of pride in Alpha Delta Pi and a strong sisterhood across the organization.
suggested BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
- Member of Alpha Delta Pi preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in English, communications, journalism, or public relations.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent written, oral, presentation, interpersonal, customer service, listening and organizational skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products is a plus.
- Experience with mass email platforms.
- Knowledge and understanding of AP style.
- Chapter experience which includes knowledge of chapter operations.
- Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, multi-task, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a positive attitude and flexibility.

- Convention or Summer meeting (late June)
- Collegiate Officer Leadership Events if needed (January/February)
- Conference travel as determined by supervisors (ongoing)

Alpha Delta Pi’s Executive Office in Atlanta, GA preferred; remote work may be considered. Remote work is not eligible in the following states: CA, NY, NJ, HI, AK
