Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Arts Access Services Lead (AASL), the Arts Access Services Assistant (AASA) performs all Arts Library Access Services operations and assists with supervising student staff. Major duties include circulation desk activities, assisting with the supervision and training of student staff; public service; course reserves processing; handling billing questions; stacks and item record maintenance; library card issuance; serving as the building contact for user complaints and safety and security issues; and basic technical processing. The AASA is responsible for supervising the Arts Access Services department and ensuring all access and public service functions are efficiently performed in the absence of the Access Services Lead. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be assigned to cover for staff shortages during those hours. The AASA assists in the library's efforts to connect with patrons through various official UCLA Library web and outreach outlets in order to promote and provide library services, foster a sense of community, and to resolve problems.

The Arts Library has more than 270,000 books in the fields of architecture, architectural history, art, art history, design, film, television, photography, theater, and allied disciplines. The Access Services Department provides services for circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance and retrieval, microforms and media, billing, telephone information operations, and building and mailroom operations. Annually, the Arts Library circulates more than 29,000 items, processes over 2,000 reserves, and shelves more than 28,000 items. The Arts Access Services Department has 2 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) career staff and 5 FTE student employees (approx. 16 students).

1. Strong oral communication skills and the ability to convey information clearly and concisely to a variety of individuals including library patrons, peers, subordinates, and supervisors.
