Mutual of Omaha is looking for a Back-End (Java/Spring) Application Developer/Engineer! You will join the Workplace Solutions ART on our dynamic Group Services Application (GSAP) team. In this role, you'll design, develop, and support innovative software applications that enhance how millions of people access Mutual of Omaha’s group insurance products. WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  1. Estimated Salary: $74,000 - $95,000, plus annual bonus.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  1. Apply best practices in software engineering and test automation using technologies like Java (1.8+), Hibernate, J2EE, Docker, Spring, Guice, Grails, Groovy, SQL, Mulesoft, APIs, REST, XML, JSON, and related frameworks — all while maintaining a strong focus on user satisfaction and customer experience.
  2. Develop, maintain, and support applications that manage groups, sales, renewals, and pricing within the group insurance domain.
  3. Drive the development of new insurance products and enhancements for existing ones, including accident, critical illness, dental, disability, family medical leave, hospital indemnity, life, and vision insurance.
  4. Enhance and extend features within our legacy systems to meet evolving business needs.
  5. Balance your time effectively between system maintenance, new feature development, production support, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve user-reported issues during business hours and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, ensuring minimal disruption to the system.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  1. 1-3 years of professional software development experience with proficiency in Java (1.8+), Hibernate, J2EE, Docker, Spring, Guice, Grails, Groovy, SQL, Mulesoft, APIs, REST, XML, JSON, and related frameworks. Experience with IDEs like Eclipse and IntelliJ, and deployment to environments such as AWS, TKG, and on-premises.
  2. SQL skills with experience in complex backend databases (e.g., DB2 or similar), and a solid understanding of data relationships and software integration techniques.
  3. Familiarity with automation testing frameworks such as JUnit, Spock, and Mockito; version control systems like Git; and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to ensure high-quality, reliable code delivery.
  4. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and participate in on-call support rotations.
  5. You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  6. Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

  3. Strong expertise in API development and integration, particularly RESTful services.
  4. Proficiency with Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or TKG.
  5. Hands-on experience with Java Dependency Injection Frameworks such as Spring Boot and Google Guice.
  6. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like GitHub Actions to streamline deployment and testing.
