Job Opportunity

 

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to join our reserving and claims analytics team. This is a unique opportunity for the right individual to experience a broad range of actuarial work as a key contributor to the reserving process, and as point-person for a variety of essential reports for senior management. The right person will be flexible enough to wear many hats and will be highly motivated and willing to learn. The actuary will work closely with many disciplines throughout the organization and will be very personable.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Play an integral role in the reserving cycle of the organization by working on quarterly closes and reserve analyses
  • Work with various functions within the organization to create and maintain analytics discipline and analyses
  • Collaborate effectively with the actuarial data and analytics team to enhance processes and maintain a high standard of data integrity
  • Participate in on-going large loss discussions with claims department and monitor actual vs. target loss emergence
  • Communicate results and findings to various key stakeholders of the organization
  • Communicate with outside auditors, consultants and actuaries
  • Management of financial reporting database ensuring the needed reserving and financial data is captured accurately and efficiently
  • Be comfortable working with teammates in different offices and regions, particularly changing communication style as needed.

 

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training in computer science, actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Actively pursuing the ACAS/FCAS designation
  • Advanced Excel skills with VBA experience
  • Proficiency in SQL, R or similar language is strongly preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.

The base salary range for this position in New York is from $75,000.00 to $100,000.00, along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience.
